Shubman Gill OUT, Rohit Sharma as Captain! Probable 15 Member Team India ODI Squad to Face Afghanistan

After the completion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the Indian cricket team players are all set to be busy in IPL 2026. The cash-rich league will begin on March 28 with RCB taking on SRH in the tournament opener.

The next time Indian team will be seen in action will be just after the Indian Premier League as they will be hosting Afghanistan for a one-off Test followed by the three ODIs. This will mark their preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

The Afghanistan tour of India 2026 will begin with the Test match from June 6 to 10. After the Test match, the first ODI will be played on June 14 at Dharamsala's HPCA stadium, the most beautiful cricket stadium in the world. It will be followed by the second match at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on June 17. The last game of the series is scheduled to be played on June 20 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Probable Team India ODI Squad for Afghanistan

With the India vs Afghanistan ODI series still around the corner, let's predict India's squad for the series. There are chances that the Men in Blue might rest Shubman Gill for the series after a long IPL season. This means that Rohit Sharma will be there as an opener along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is the third regular opener in the side. Ruturaj Gaikwad is also likely to make a cut into the team.

With Gill resting, there are chances that Rohit might even take over as captain. Virat Kohli is expected to be there at No. 3 followed by Shreyas Iyer, who is one of the best ODI batsmen in the world.

Rishabh Pant will be there as the second keeper as well.

Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy are expected to be the lead spin bowling department, while Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana are expected to be the pacers. Jasprit Bumrah, the best bowler in the world, is likely to be rested for the after a hectic IPL 2026 season.
