Will Shubman Gill Play Ranji Trophy

Indian cricket team ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill is all set to go back to the domestic circuit after being snubbed from India's T20I team. Gill, seen as the future superstar of Indian cricket, will be playing in the second leg of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26.

The top order batter will be featuring for Punjab in their upcoming game against Saurashtra on January 22, 2025, in Rajkot. Along with the Indian Test captain, Ravindra Jadeja will also be donning the Saurashtra jersey as the two best Test players of India will be up against each other.

Will Shubman Gill Play Ranji Trophy?

The reports in Cricbuzz suggested that both Gill and Jadeja will travel from Indore to Rajkot together once the confirmation is there. Both were in Indore for the IND vs NZ 3rd ODI, which was the series decider between the two teams.

Despite being one of the best batsmen in the world, Shubman Gill didn't have a series to remember against New Zealand. The right-hander scored 135 runs at an average of 45 in the three matches. Under his leadership, Team India lost the ODI series to New Zealand for the first time ever.
If the reports are to be believed, then the presence of Shubman Gill will be a big boost for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26. The side is reeling at the bottom half of the Elite Group B points table with one win and one defeat from five games.

Gill’s presence will not only bolster Punjab’s batting lineup, but they will also have a leader-like figure in the side. There are also chances that he might take over the captaincy of the team in the match against Saurashtra.

Shubman Gill T20 World Cup 2026 absence was one of the most shocking things from India's squad selection. The right-hander had been the vice-captain of the team for a long time but was dropped from the squad before the tournament.

Shubman Gill in Terrific Form in Red-Ball Cricket

The Indian Test captain has been in terrific form in red-ball cricket. Ever since, he has taken over the captaincy of the Indian Test team, he has looked a class apart with truckloads of runs under his belt. In his first Test assignment as captain, which was against England in England, he hammered 754 runs to go with four centuries.

He carried on his form against the West Indies and hit a century in the second Test of the series and established his credentials as one of the best Test batsmen in the world. It was expected that he would set the stage on fire in the series against South Africa, but unfortunately got injured in the first game and missed the entire series.

Going into the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, Gill will be high on confidence, having hit two half-centuries in the India vs New Zealand series. With runs under his belt, he would be eager to help his state team make a comeback in the tournament. After the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, he will be seen in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, where he will captain the Gujarat Titans.
