Team India To Announce THIS LSG STAR as New ODI Captain

3 min
New ODI Captain

The injury scare for India continues as Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the 2nd Test match against South Africa. After sustaining a neck sprain, Gill missed the remaining sessions of the first match. However, he was looking forward to playing in the second game and also travelled with the team to Guwahati, where the match would be played.

BCCI gave a confirmation on Gill's injury on Wednesday, stating that the decision of his participation will be taken a day before the match, considering his fitness. Reports suggest that the captain didn't take part in any practice sessions but was eager to play the match. After being ruled out of the 2nd Test, there is a high probability of Gill missing out on the ODI series as well, which will start on November 30. India's vice captain, Shreyas Iyer, is also injured and is in the process of recovery. Hence, the board is likely to make someone else the ODI Captain series against the Proteas.

Rishabh Pant To Lead India in ODI series against South Africa

India's Test vice-captain, Rishabh Pant, might get a chance to lead the team in the IND vs SA ODI series, starting from November 30. He did handle the team pressure in the first Test match, but he was the stand-in captain then. This time, the Board is planning to give the entire responsibility to Rishabh Pant Captain for the upcoming series.

Pant has quite a number of experiences as a captain since he has led teams in the IPL and domestic matches. With the high-pressure series coming up, managing the team and batting performance might get trickier for Pant, but it will be interesting to see how he does it all. This will test the leadership skills of Pant, along with being one of the best wicket keepers in India.

Who Will Replace Shubman Gill in Final Test?

After Gill was ruled out of the Test, the real question that comes to everyone's mind is who will replace him? The answer might seem easy to the audience, as Sai Sudharsan is the correct choice at the moment. However, with the shufflings happening in the Indian team recently, the guessing game won't work. Hence, the fans will have to wait until the playing XI is announced to get confirmed information regarding the replacement.

The last game is extremely important for India since they didn't play good cricket in the previous encounter and ended up losing the match by a mere margin of 30 runs. The Proteas outplayed the home team in every department, led by one of the best test captain in the world, which was embarrassing and disappointing at the same time. Losing a Test match on home turf was not something that was associated with India a few years back, but after they lost the 3-match series against New Zealand last year, things have gone downhill. Nevertheless, the last match will be extremely crucial for the hosts as the WTC final is slipping away, once again.
