Ian Smith is regarded as one of the best cricket commentators in the world. Over the years, he has covered several big games of the ICC events. He was also there for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final, which India won by beating South Africa.

The former New Zealand wicketkeeper, who was part of the T20 World Cup commentators panel, was expected to be there in the IND vs NZ final 2026 as well. However, the ICC didn’t name him in the panel. The reason behind that is still not known as there is no official confirmation by the ICC on the same.

Smith was present in almost all of the New Zealand matches in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. With the Black Caps being in the final as well, it was almost certain that he would be the first one on the list alongside India's Ravi Shastri.

Although there is no official confirmation related to his snub, it can speculated that he has already left India early due to some personal reasons. However, it is clear that Ian Smith T20 World Cup final absence will be disappointing for the ICC.
