Why Ravindra Jadeja is Not Playing Today in Chandigarh vs Saurashtra Ranji Trophy Match?

The seventh and the last round of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 has started on January 29. Saurashtra are taking on Chandigarh at the Sector 16 Stadium, Chandigarh. Saurashtra skipper Jaydev Unadkat won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Unadkat mentioned that their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is not playing the Saurashtra vs Chandigarh match. It is a blow to Saurashtra as Jadeja is one of their key players and could have made a difference.

Why Ravindra Jadeja is Not Playing Today Against Chandigarh?

Unadkat didn't mention any reason behind Ravindra Jadeja's absence from the Chandigarh vs Saurashtra Ranji Trophy match. Hence, the reason remains unknown so far. He played in the previous game against Punjab where he claimed just two wickets in the whole match.

But in the second innings, he contributed with the bat, scoring a quickfire 46 off 44 balls, including four boundaries. This game is important for Saurashtra as they have a fair chance of qualification if they manage to win. However, they will miss Jadeja's experience.

So far, Saurashtra have won two out of six matches, similar to that of Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. If they manage to win this game, and the rest of the teams lose, they'll directly qualify for the knockout games.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh are already out of the tournament with just one win in six matches. Their performance wasn't up to the mark this season. But captain Manan Vohra, one of the best batsmen in India, showed excellent form and played some outstanding knocks throughout the tournament.

Ravindra Jadeja's Performance in Ranji Trophy 2025-26

Ravindra Jadeja Ranji Trophy performance against Punjab wasn't great as he claimed just two wickets. The legendary cricketer, who is among the best all-rounders in the world. has played just one match in this season so far.

During the match against Punjab, Jadeja might not have been at his best but his experience played a key role. He asked Parth Bhut to keep putting pressure which later helped them dismiss Shubman Gill. After the match, Bhut revealed the advice he got from Jadeja during the match that stayed with him and helped him perform.

“Jaddu bhai is a legend of the game. He has played a lot of cricket and always shares his experience. Ahead of the Punjab match, he addressed us in the dressing room and said that we had to dominate and play attacking cricket. ‘Attack karna hai’ — that’s all he said. When Shubman, who has also played a lot of cricket, came in to bat, Jaddu bhai told me to attack him and be aggressive, and that worked out for me," said Bhut as quoted by TOI.

Saurashtra went on to win the game by 194 runs, their highest win this season. While he is not playing this match, Jadeja is likely to play Saurashtra's next game, which will be a knockout.
