Sarfaraz Khan Puts Shubman Gill's Spot in Team India Under Threat

Will Sarfaraz Khan replace Shubman Gill

India's Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill has decided not to take a break after the recently concluded three-match ODI series against New Zealand, where the Men in Blue suffered a humiliating defeat by 1-2.

Gill is currently in action in the ongoing Ranji Trophy clash between Punjab and Saurashtra at the Niranjan Shah Stadium C, Rajkot. However, he didn't have a great outing in the match as he went back to the pavilion after scoring a two-ball duck. And many fans are doubting whether Gill's place in the team is in danger.

Will Sarfaraz Khan Replace Shubman Gill?

Leading Punjab against Saurashtra, Shubman Gill came to bat at No. 5 after the team lost their third wicket on the score of 73. However, he was dismissed LBW by Parth Bhut in just the second ball, which left the fans stunned. On the other hand, Mumbai's star batter Sarfaraz Khan continued his red-hot form in domestic cricket and smashed a scintillating century against Hyderabad.

Gill has been in good form in the Test and ODI formats, but was recently dropped from India's T20I squad. He wasn't even included in India's squad for T20 World Cup 2026, which has made a significant impact on his overall form and confidence.

However, it won't be easy for Sarfaraz to take Gill's place in the Tests. Sarfaraz might be one of the best batsmen in India at the moment but Gill is the currently the captain of India's Test team and has also performed brilliantly in recent series against England and West Indies.

Shubman Gill's Recent Performance in Tests

Despite not being in great form in his career, Gill has managed to produce some great knocks in the Test and ODI formats. The right-handed batter was the highest run-scorer during India's tour of England with a total of 754 runs in just five innings, including four centuries.

Gill continued his domination at home and scored 192 runs in the two-match Test series against the West Indies. He has already established his credentials as one of the best Test batsmen in the world.

However, the star batter suffered an injury during the three-match Test series against South Africa and was ruled out of the series. Gill recently appeared in a three-match ODI series against New Zealand, where the batter smashed two half-centuries but couldn't convert those into big knocks. He will be next in action in international cricket in July in England.
