Will Ruben Amorim Get Sacked After Manchester United's Europa League Final Loss?

Will Ruben Amorim Be Sacked
  • Manchester United lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League Final.
  • They are set to finish in the bottom half of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
  • Amorim has an under 40% win success percentage as Manchester United boss.

Manchester United suffered a disastrous loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League on Wednesday evening. Man United went down 1-0 against their rivals, Spurs. In doing so, they are set to go trophyless in the current campaign and will not be able to play in the UEFA Champions League or any UEFA competition in the 2025/26 season.

Their poor performance in the final and shocking recent results have posed the question of whether Ruben Amorim will pay the price and be sacked as Man United boss.

The Red Devils are currently in 16th place in the Premier League table heading into the final match of the campaign. The highest that they can finish is 13th if they defeat Aston Villa by a major margin in the final matchday, but the Manchester side are still en route to their worst position in a Premier League campaign in the competition's history. The biggest question is, will Ruben Amorim be sacked?

Will Ruben Amorim Be Sacked?

There is a lot of speculation about whether Amorim will be sacked by the Red Devils management after their loss to Spurs in the final. That is not because of their performances in Europe, but in the Premier League. United have lost 16 of their 41 matches under the Portuguese manager since he took over the club on 11 November, as Erik ten Hag's success.

They have lost more games than they have won (15) under Amorim, and there is a lingering feeling among some that he might pay the price for it.

However, reports have claimed on this matter that the 40-year-old gaffer will not be sacked by the Red Devils even after losing in the Europa League. The Man United hierarchy reportedly believes that it will be wrong to use Amorim as a scapegoat for the club's failures in the 2024/25 season. They also feel that the manager deserves an entire campaign (2025/26) to make his methods work and get the players performing at their best under his system.

What is next for Ruben Amorim and Manchester United?

The Red Devils are understandably gutted to have lost the Europa League final. This marked their fourth loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the 2024/25 season and also means that United will not be playing in any European competition next season. The last time that Manchester United didn't qualify for European football was back in the 2014/15 campaign after the disastrous campaign under David Moyes in the 2013/14 season.

They were, however, able to bounce back into the UEFA Champions League in the 2015/16 season. Man United have just one more game remaining in the ongoing campaign against Aston Villa at Old Trafford, which they'll hope to win to at least end the campaign on a positive note.

They will play two post-season friendly matches against the ASEAN All Stars XI and Hong Kong at the end of May, before players go off for vacation. The Red Devils will begin preparations for the 2025/26 season in July, when they start pre-season training and head off to the USA for a couple of friendly matches.
