Guadalajara vs Barcelona Player Ratings

Summary

  • Andreas Christensen was the man of the match after a goal and a dominant defensive display.
  • Manu Ramírez was the worst performer, struggling to impact the game and losing possession frequently.

It was a classic cup tie struggle for long stretches, a real test of patience for the visitors. FC Barcelona controlled the ball, as you'd expect, but Guadalajara were incredibly well-drilled and resilient at the back, frustrating the Catalan giants for over 75 minutes. The atmosphere at the Estadio Pedro Escartín was electric, clearly giving the home side a massive lift. The game felt destined for a goalless draw, a moral victory for Guadalajara.

However, Barcelona's quality eventually shone through, breaking the deadlock from a set-piece, a testament to their persistence. It was a deserved win in this Copa Del Rey encounter, but Guadalajara can hold their heads high. They made life incredibly difficult and it took a moment of brilliance from a corner to finally breach their defense, before a late second goal added some gloss to the scoreline that perhaps flattered the visitors slightly. FC Barcelona Player Ratings vs Guadalajara

Check out the Barcelona player ratings for the Guadalajara vs Barcelona fixture.

Goalkeeper

Marc-André ter Stegen - 7.0: A quiet evening for the captain for the most part. He was a spectator for long periods but stayed alert. He made one fantastic save in the first half, diving to deny a strike from distance. His distribution was perfect, a calm head when his team needed to build from the back.

Defenders

Andreas Christensen - 9.0: An absolute colossus at the back and our man of the match. He was everywhere, making 11 recoveries and a crucial last-man tackle. What stood out to us was his composure and leadership. To top it all off, he rose highest to head home the vital opening goal. A truly dominant performance that changed the game.

Eric García - 7.5: A very composed and proactive display from García. He was comfortable on the ball, completing 93% of his passes and often stepping into midfield. He almost scored with a header in the first half and was solid defensively, winning most of his duels and recovering the ball seven times. A reliable outing.

Marc Casadó - 7.0: Played in a defensive role and looked solid. He was tidy in possession with 97% pass accuracy and wasn't afraid to put a tackle in. He provided an outlet and supported the attack well with some decent crosses. A mature performance from the youngster before being substituted.

Jofre Torrents - 7.0: Showed some really promising signs down the flank. His 100% pass accuracy in his 63 minutes is impressive, and he was strong in the duel. He was a constant outlet on the left, though he didn't produce a killer final ball. A good, energetic performance before he was taken off.

Midfielders

Frenkie de Jong - 8.0: The conductor in midfield. Everything flowed through him. He dictated the tempo of the game with his incredible range of passing, creating a couple of big chances and grabbing the assist for the second goal. He never looked flustered, even when Guadalajara were pressing hard. A class act.

Lamine Yamal - 8.0: A livewire on the wing. Guadalajara's defenders must have been having nightmares about him. His eight successful dribbles show how much of a threat he was. He delivered the pinpoint cross for Christensen's goal, a crucial contribution. Sometimes his decision-making was a little raw but his talent is undeniable.

Fermín López - 6.0: A frustrating night for Fermín. He got into good positions and wasn't afraid to shoot, but his finishing was wayward. He missed a big chance and sent five shots off target. While his energy is commendable, he needed to show more composure in front of goal. We felt he tried to force things a bit too much.

Marc Bernal - 6.0: A tough first half for the young midfielder. He struggled to get into the rhythm of the game and picked up a yellow card for a clumsy challenge. He was hooked at halftime, which tells its own story. Not his best day, but it's all part of the learning curve for him.

Roony Bardghji - 6.5: He was busy and looked to make things happen, but much like Fermín, his end product was lacking. He got a decent shot on target but was otherwise contained well by the opposition. He worked hard for the team before being substituted in the second half.

Forwards

Marcus Rashford - 7.5: It was a mixed bag from Rashford. He missed two big chances and looked frustrated for parts of the match. However, he kept going and eventually got his reward, sealing the win with a well-taken goal in the 90th minute. That clinical finish bumps up his rating significantly.

Gerard Martín - N/A: Came on too late to make any real impact.

Goalkeeper

Dani Vicente - 8.0: An outstanding performance that deserved a clean sheet. He made seven saves, some of which were genuinely world-class to deny Rashford and García. He was the main reason his team were in the game for so long. An heroic effort in a losing cause, he can be incredibly proud.

Defenders

Ablanque - 7.0: The captain led by example. He threw himself into tackles and made a number of crucial blocks and clearances. He battled hard against Barcelona's tricky forwards and picked up a yellow card for his troubles. A warrior's performance from the heart of the defence.

Agus Moreno - 5.5: Found it really tough going. He was dribbled past five times and struggled with the movement of Barcelona's attack. He worked hard but was ultimately outclassed before being substituted just after the hour mark.

Miguel Ángel Cera - 6.5: A solid and determined display from the defender. He made a couple of key tackles and clearances, standing firm for much of the game. He was eventually substituted as his team chased an equalizer.

Julio Martinez - 6.0: A difficult night for the defender. He made a few important blocks and clearances but was part of a backline under constant pressure. He struggled to cope with the relentless waves of attack in the second half.

Jorge Casado - 6.0: He had a tough time against the likes of Lamine Yamal. He was dribbled past twice and lost possession a few times. He made some important clearances but was on the back foot for the entire 90 minutes.

Midfielders

Pablo Rojo - 6.5: He ran his socks off in the midfield. The work rate was immense, trying to close down de Jong and co. He won a decent number of his duels and made some key tackles. However, he offered little going forward, which was understandable given the circumstances.

Borja Diaz - 5.5: A really quiet game from the midfielder. From our perspective, he was a passenger for large parts of the match, only touching the ball 12 times in 62 minutes. He failed to make any impact on the game before being subbed.

Manu Ramírez - 5.0: From our point of view, the worst performer on the pitch. He was dispossessed four times and lost the ball a staggering 13 times. He got a yellow card and offered very little in an attacking sense. A night to forget for him.

Samu Mayo - 6.0: A battling performance in the engine room. He put himself about, made a few tackles and interceptions, but also picked up a yellow card. He was overrun by Barcelona's superior quality and movement in midfield. Couldn't fault his effort though.

Forwards

Alejandro Canizo - 6.0: An incredibly thankless task for the lone striker. He was isolated for the entire game, feeding on scraps. He won a few aerial duels and held the ball up when he could, but he was given almost zero service to work with. He fought a losing battle.
