GT Family Members in Tears: Who Cried After Heartbreaking Loss to MI?
Two of those fans were the GT head coach Ashish Nehra's son and daughter, Arush and Ariana Nehra, who were seen crying as the camera focused on him after the loss. Even Shubman Gill's sister Shahneel Gill and some of the members from the social media team who were also present at the stadium, were seen quite devastated by the game's result.
The match turned out to be a nail-biting thriller for the fans as it went to the last over. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult saved the day for MI with the ball in the death overs. However, a huge credit goes to Ashwani Kumar for bowling brilliantly throughout the match. While experienced players like Hardik Pandya and Richard Gleeson were hit for boundaries and sixes, Ashwani held his calm and tried his best to maintain the line and length. With this loss, GT are eliminated from the IPL 2025.
The match started with Hardik Pandya winning the toss and choosing to bat first. It was a controversial decision considering yesterday's game between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). However, MI batters came in with a different form and aggression altogether. Debutant Jonny Bairstow slammed some of the best shots against the GT bowlers, which was quite unexpected considering his first game of the season. Keeping everything aside, the player went on to hit 47 runs in 22 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes.
GT Falls Short Despite Heroics from Sundar and Sai Sudharsan
He was accompanied by one of the best players in knockout matches, Rohit Sharma. Both players wreaked havoc on the opponent bowlers. After Bairstow's dismissal, Rohit carried the momentum forward, smashing 81 runs off 50 balls, hitting nine boundaries and four sixes. He was magical to watch at the stadium. The rest of the MI batters did support well, helping the team reach 228 runs in the first innings. Considering the pitch conditions, any score below 200 runs was chaseable.
Moreover, GT had an incredible batting lineup as well, which is why the MI batters were smart enough not to waste any balls. They utilised the chances they got and reached a defendable score. For GT, Sai Kishore and Prasidh Krishna claimed two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj got just one wicket. Their bowling was weak, and the fielding was horrible as some players dropped catches at the start of the game. This is the main reason MI's top order batters went on to score good runs in the powerplays.
When GT came in to bat, captain Shubman Gill (1 off 2) was dismissed by Trent Boult in the very first over of the match, demoralising the others. However, Sai Sudharsan and Kusal Mendis managed to score 67 runs in the powerplays. However, Mendis was dismissed on 20 runs off 10 balls, including one boundary and two sixes. Washington Sundar came in to bat at the No.4 position and was outstanding with the bat, hitting 48 runs off 24 balls, before Jasprit Bumrah knocked over his stumps.
He hit five boundaries and three sixes and brought the game close. However, Sundarsan lost his wicket on 80 runs, which turned the entire course of the game. GT required 36 runs off 12 balls, which they failed to score, leading to their elimination from the playoffs. With this win, MI are almost close to their sixth title in the IPL.
