Raj Kundra Seeks ₹__ Crore After BCCI Approves RR Sale

Kal Somania-led group bought 100 per cent stakes in the franchise for $1.63 billion (approx. INR 15,000 crore), making it one of the most valuable IPL teams. The transition phase will now take place just after the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.
However, before the transition begins, RR’s new management might have to face a big challenge as well as a legal case. This is because Raj Kundra has demanded his stake from the franchise, which he claims was taken from him without consent. The case of Raj Kundra demand on Rajasthan Royals sale can go long and it remains to be seen who comes out on top.
Raj Kundra Rajasthan Royals Stake
After the Rajasthan Royals sale, Raj Kundra claimed that he holds 11.7% stake in the Rajasthan Royals. However, that was taken away from him without his consent. According to NDTV Profit, he demands it back or wants compensation reflecting the current multi-billion dollar valuation.
Kundra has officially moved the case to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the richest cricket board in the world, and the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to pause the ownership transition. Not only this, but he also provided insights into how his stakes were taken.
According to Kundra, his shares were transferred in 2015 without his consent and a subsequent 2019 settlement was signed under pressure. This comes as a massive problem for the Kal Somani-led group just after a big sale and if Raj Kundra’s case becomes strong, they might have to give the stake back to the Kundra, who was one of the owners of the franchise.
Raj Kundra Accuses Key Promoter of Rajasthan Royals
Raj Kundra also blamed a key promoter of the Rajasthan Royals for financial misconduct. He also accused a key promoter of offshore money laundering and "willful suppression of co-promoter rights".
In what is a major boost for Raj Kundra, the Bombay High Court allowed him to challenge the anti-suit injunction from the UK High Court, enabling him to continue his legal battle in India. It now remains to be seen how things will unfold.
Coming to the RR sale, the Rajasthan Royals owner will take over the franchise after the IPL 2026. The 2008 IPL champions were originally purchased for just USD 67 million in 2008 by Emerging Media, led by Manoj Badale.
