Ravindra Jadeja Gets New Role as India Announce Squad for West Indies Test Series 2025

Team India's squad for the two-match Test series against West Indies has been announced. Shubman Gill will lead the strong Indian national cricket team which has some of the most talented red-ball cricketers within the country. While Gill is the captain, Rishabh Pant, who is India's designated vice-captain in Tests, didn't find a place. Pant is still recovering from the injury that he sustained during India's tour of England 2025.

As expected, the Men in Blue have gone with a spin-heavy contingent based on the home conditions. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been appointed the team's vice-captain in the absence of Pant while Washington Sundar is also likely to be in the team's first-choice Playing XI.

Jadeja is probably the most experienced player in this Indian team and the selectors have shown faith in him to make him the vice-captain of the team. The all-rounder is a vital player in the Indian Test team and proved his worth during the England tour as well. His experience will be key to India in this series in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah, one of the best bowlers in the world, has found a place despite concerns over his workload management. He will be assisted by Mohammed Siraj in the fast bowling department as India aim to collect full points in this crucial WTC cycle. The spin department will be led by Jadeja himself with Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav assisting him.

The batting line-up looks strong with skipper Shubman Gill expected to lead the team from the front. Gill is one of the best batsmen in the world and showed his capabilities in England. Sai Sudharsan has been trusted with the No. 3 spot after a few impressive knocks in England. He will be aiming to notch up a few big scores here.

It also remains to be seen if the team management can fit in the all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in the playing XI or not. Reddy has played a key role for India in overseas Tests, however, he is yet to play a Test at home. He will be aiming to replicate his overseas performance in home conditions as well, if he gets a chance.

Rishabh Pant OUT; Devdutt Padikkal IN

In the absence of Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel will be the first-choice wicketkeeper of the team while N Jagadeesan is the reserve keeper in the India squad for WI Tests. Jurel has had an impressive start to his Test career with both bat and gloves and will be looking to produce a dominating performance here.

In a big change, Devdutt Padikkal has forced his way back into the India national cricket team. He has replaced his Karnataka teammate, Karun Nair in the India squad for West Indies Test series. Nair failed to get a big score during the Test series in England. Padikkal has been in good form recently while playing for India A which paved his way back into the national team.
