The BCCI has named a 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after a selection meeting was held in Mumbai on Saturday. The announcement confirmed that the same group will also feature in the five-match T20 series against New Zealand, making consistency and preparation a priority right before the multi-nation tournament begins. Despite his poor form, Suryakumar will continue to lead the team, and Axar Patel was named as the vice-captain. Shubman Gill was dropped in a surprise move as Gill had missed the last two T20Is due to a foot injury, which he suffered in the nets ahead of the abandoned T20I in Lucknow.

Ishan Kishan and Rinku Singh made a comeback to the team. The squad is a perfect balance of batters like Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Rinku, and Kishan. In addition to this, the lineup has the best all-rounders in India, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, and Washington Sundar. For the bowling lineup, India has Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Jasprit Bumrah, who will front the pace attack. Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy are among the spinners' options.
