However, Shubman Gill, who was the vice-captain in the South Africa series, is not included in the T20 World Cup squad, leaving everyone wondering about the possible reasons.

Shubman Gill Dropped from India T20 World Cup 2026 Squad: Know Reason

After being the vice captain of India for some time, Shubman Gill has now been dropped from the T20 World Cup 2026, which is a huge sign that the selectors have chosen in-form players for the marquee event. After the squad selection, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar opened up on the reasons why Gill was dropped, mentioning that he is ‘out of runs’ and had missed the previous World Cup too. Agarkar spoke about how the Indian team has a lot of options currently and they have gone with the best players. Ajit Agarkar said at the press conference,

Well, Shubman Gill injury might also be another reason since he missed the last T20I against South Africa. He sustained a foot injury during the practice session ahead of the 4th match and was ruled out.
