Why Ishan Kishan is Not Playing Today?

Jharkhand's star batter Ishan Kishan has missed the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025. While he played the first two games, the BCCI has rested him for the 3rd and 4th game as the T20I series against New Zealand and the World Cup 2026 are about to begin.

Ishan Kishan Vijay Hazare Trophy journey hasn't ended yet as he will join the Jharkhand team from January 2. Ishan Kishan VHT performance has been outstanding this season as he slammed a stunning century in the first match. The wicketkeeper-batter looks well in form and hence, is picked up for the T20I series against New Zealand.

Apart from that, he is also present in the T20 World Cup squad. After struggling for almost two years, Kishan has finally made his way into the Indian team. He last played for India back in 2023 and then took a break due to travel fatigue. Post that, he was sidelined by BCCI and was removed from the central contracts list as well. Now, Kishan is back in the squad. But, we'll have to wait and see if he gets picked up in the playing XI.

Will Ishan Kishan Be Included in ODI Squad vs New Zealand?

Ahead of the first series of 2026 against New Zealand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce the squad for the ODI series. While the squad is likely to remain same like the South Africa series, small changes can take place. Reports suggest that the selectors are considering Ishan Kishan over Rishabh Pant for the upcoming series. Pant, who was a part of the South Africa series, didn't get to play any match.

With Ishan is great form and Pant failing to perform in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025, the selectors might lean towards the Jharkhand skipper. Recently, he has shown why he can be considered as one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world, The selection committee is likely to hold a meeting on January 4 to discuss the squad and announce it on the same day.

As per reports, Shreyas Iyer hasn't got the clearance yet from the medical team and he might have to miss the series. Hence, the fans will have to wait for the squad announcement to get a clear idea about the players included by the selectors.
