The victory was almost single-handedly delivered by the clinical finishing of Alexander Sorloth. He was simply on another level in that first half and we can say that it was just another warm up or intense practice session before the La Roja meet FC Barcelona mid week.

What really stood out to us was how Atlético Madrid grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. They were relentless from the opening whistle. Sørloth's two goals, coming in the 16th and 26th minutes, put the result beyond doubt very early on. It felt like the match was decided before thirty minutes had passed.

Real Oviedo deserve some praise for not folding completely. They showed real heart trying to get back into the match. We noticed Federico Viñas was a constant nuisance for the defense, and the timeless Santi Cazorla was trying to create something. Ultimately, they just lacked that killer instinct in front of goal. The home side managed the second half with a professional calm we've come to expect.

Goalkeeper

Jan Oblak - 7.0: A fairly quiet evening for the Atleti stopper. He only had one significant save to make but did so with his usual confidence. Commanded his box well, claiming crosses and distributing cleanly. His presence alone provides so much assurance to the backline.

Defenders

Clément Lenglet - 6.5: A steady, if unspectacular, performance. His passing from the back was tidy, helping to build attacks. He was caught out once or twice but recovered well. Overall a solid night's work without being truly tested.

Nahuel Molina - 6.5: A very mixed performance from our perspective. He was a threat going forward at times but looked defensively vulnerable. Being dribbled past four times is a concern. An error that led to a shot blots his copybook significantly.

Dávid Hancko - 8.0: What a display. He was a creative force from the back, providing a wonderful assist for the opening goal. He also created another big chance, showing his attacking quality. Defensively he was sound, a really complete performance.

Marc Pubill - 7.5: We were very impressed with this young man. He was an absolute rock at the back, winning all his ground duels. He made numerous clearances and tackles, reading the game exceptionally well. A mature and commanding performance.

Nico González - 6.0: Played in an unfamiliar defensive role and it showed. He seemed to struggle with the defensive side, getting dribbled past a few times. He did get a shot on target but his high possession loss rate was a problem. A tough night for him before being subbed.

Conor Gallagher - 7.0: The usual all-action, energetic display from Gallagher. He was constantly buzzing around, making tackles and trying to drive his team forward. He tested the keeper with a couple of shots but was also a little loose in possession. A good, but not great, outing.

Koke - 7.0: The captain was the metronome in midfield. He controlled the tempo of the game with his near-perfect passing. He kept everything simple and effective. A typically composed and intelligent performance before he was given a rest.

Álex Baena - 7.0: Looked very bright and inventive during his time on the pitch. His movement caused problems for the opposition. It was a real shame his game was cut short at halftime, as he looked like he had more to give.

Forwards

Antoine Griezmann - 6.5: A surprisingly quiet game from the Frenchman. He linked play nicely as always, drifting into pockets of space. However, he lacked his usual cutting edge in the final third. He was substituted just after the hour mark after a subdued display.

Alexander Sørloth - 8.5: Unquestionably the man of the match. His two goals in the first half were expertly taken, showcasing pure striker's instinct. He was a constant nightmare for the Oviedo defense, registering a staggering eight shots. He was the difference-maker and fully deserved his brace. A truly dominant performance.

Aarón Escandell - 7.5: It's strange to rate a keeper who conceded twice so highly, but he was brilliant. He made six saves, some of which were top-class stops. Without him, the scoreline could have been much worse for Oviedo. He can hold his head high.

Defenders

Rahim Alhassane - 6.5: A very busy evening for the fullback. He was solid defensively, making five tackles and six clearances. He even managed to create a chance going forward. A committed and hard-working performance against a top side.

David Costas - 6.0: He had a difficult night against the movement of Atleti's forwards. While his passing was accurate, he struggled in his defensive duels. It was a tough challenge and one he found difficult to manage.

David Carmo - 5.5: It wasn't his day. He struggled to impose himself on the game before picking up a yellow card. His evening was cut short by an unfortunate injury. He looked off the pace from the start.
