Fresh off the 4-2 drubbing against Leeds United in their previous game, Andoni Iraola's Liverpool took on Monaco at Anfield for their fourth pre-season fixture. The new manager fielded a strong side against the Ligue 1 opposition, determined to be back in winning ways.

The Reds showed why they are one of the best football clubs in the world currently, as they asserted dominance in the 16th minute when Alexander Isak found the back of the net from a Ryan Gravenberch assist to get the Anfield crowd on their feet.

Liverpool FC doubled the lead in the 29th minute when a cross was not cleared well by the Monaco defense, which was bundled in by Florian Wirtz from close range. Isak played a big role in the play, holding the ball well even after going down on the floor.

AS Monaco pulled themselves back in the game when Virgil van Dijk conceded a penalty. Aleksandr Golovin scored the spot kick with ease to cut the deficit to one just a minute before halftime.

The French side hit back once again in the second half, as Mika Biereth saw his first effort saved by Giorgi Mamardashvili, who came in for Alisson, but the ball fell nicely for the Danish striker, whose second strike left Mamardashvili stranded and made things even in the game.

The two teams were difficult to separate, as both of them pushed for the winner. Monaco came agonisingly close, but Giorgi Mamardashvili stood like a wall, making some crucial saves along the way.

One of Liverpool's own, Harvey Elliott, received a standing ovation when he was introduced late in the second half, as the fans applauded massively to welcome him home after his loan spell with Aston Villa.

Monaco squeezed out the winner in the 88th minute, when German centre-back Paris Brunner took advantage of Federico Chiesa's lethargic defending at the front post to head in from a dangerous corner, which led Monaco to win ultimately.
