In what has been the latest development, as per the reports, it is learned that the Rajasthan Royals (RR) is all set to change home venue in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The reports claimed that franchises are mulling over the possibility of shifting their bases to Pune. The final say will lie in the hands of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) will have to confirm its readiness to host the franchise. But one thing is confirmed, that RR management has started looking for the options of a new venue.
They are giving first preference to the MCA Stadium in Gahunje, Pune. The reports claimed that preliminary discussions between MCA and RR officials are already underway, and one of the RR officials recently went to Pune to take a look at the stadium, hotels, airport connectivity, and other logistical aspects.
Rajasthan Royals Home Ground Change: Reason Revealed
As per reports, the Rajasthan Royals' home ground change development came after their issues with the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). Things have not been right between the two parties, and the matter took a new turn when an RCA official accused the team of match-fixing. The RR was quick to reply as they denied the allegations and demanded strict action against the RCA official. If RR home venue IPL changes, then it is learned that Gahunje stadium, which is located close to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, will host at least four games. The MCA official said,
Yes, they were here to find out details about the capacity of the stadium, the nature of the pitches, and hotels in the city. Our president, Mr. Rohit Pawar, is very keen that the IPL returns to the city. He is making all possible effort.
The change in the venue marks another addition to the list of RR IPL 2026 update. Earlier, they also made headlines when they traded Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings and roped in Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran as part of a trade deal.
RR MCA Stadium Pune Not Confirmed as RCB Also Demanded the Same Venue
There were earlier reports that claimed that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) also approached the MCA for the venue in Pune. This is because they are unlikely to play their games at M Chinnaswamy Stadium after the venue was banned following the catastrophic June 4 stampede.
However, there is no clarity on who, among RCB or RR, will get the venue. The MCA official stated that there is no guarantee related to the defending champions moving there.
"The RCB interest is genuine, but there is no guarantee that they will relocate. Any such move will depend on a host of factors," said the MCA official, explaining the situation with the defending champions.
