Sanju Samson Set to Become Delhi Capitals Captain: Reports

One of the biggest names that has been in the news for a while is Sanju Samson, who is one of the most talented cricketers in the world. As per the various reports, he is all set to part ways with his long-term franchise, the Rajasthan Royals (RR), ahead of the IPL 2026. The keeper-batter is expected to be seen in new colours by the time the next season of the league arrives.

Why is Sanju Samson Leaving Rajasthan Royals?

Several reports claimed that Sanju Samson has been unhappy with the management of the Rajasthan Royals. He was upset when the franchise didn't retain Jos Buttler ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. This could be the major reason why he wants to experience a fresh environment in the IPL.

Several media reports suggested that Sanju Samson is in talks with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and there might be a direct transfer of him in place of two CSK players. However, if the deal didn't mature, then the keeper-batter will be there in the auction.

Is Sanju Samson Delhi Capitals Comeback True?

With a lot of reports and rumours about Sanju Samson's transfer, a fresh report has suggested that another franchise is keen to add him to the team. As per the journalist Vaibhav Bhola of News 24, it is learned that keeper-batter is on the radar of the Delhi Capitals. If DC manage to sign him up, he might end up becoming their captain as well. Hence, the news of Sanju Samson DC captain might become true.

Reports claimed that Delhi Capitals won't retain Axar Patel as the skipper and the all-rounder will be there as a player only. Axar was appointed as the skipper of the team ahead of the IPL 2025. He did a decent job last time around but couldn't take his team to the playoffs. As a result, the DC team management is looking at Sanju Samson captaincy to take them forward.

If Sanju Samson joins the franchise, then it will be a big boost for the Delhi Capitals. Not only do they get a seasoned captain, but is also one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world. If he joins then it will be the second stint for him with the franchise, having played earlier when Rajasthan was banned for two years.

Sanju Samson's Next International Assignment

Sanju Samson was recently named in India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025. The keeper-batter has been amongst the best batsmen for India in the T20Is for the last year. Ever since he was asked to open the innings, he has brought his best with the bat, scoring a huge amount of runs.

However, he might have to bat in the middle order for India in the Asia Cup 2025. This is because Shubman Gill has made a return to the T20I team and will also be the vice-captain. There are chances that he might bat in the top order along with Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, forming the top three of the line-up.

In this case, Sanju Samson will have to take the spot in the middle order. The keeper-batter has been in red-hot form in the ongoing Kerala T20 League. After slamming a century in the second game, he followed it up with three consecutive half-centuries, giving a message to selectors for the Asia Cup.

The Asia Cup 2025 will begin on 9th September and the final is scheduled to be played on 28th September. India will begin their campaign against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 10th September at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
