Alexander Isak Stats: Forward brought up his 25th goal on the final day

Newcastle United star Alexander Isak finished the 2023-24 season with 25 goals in all competitions, a feat not matched by any player since Alan Shearer. The Swede struck his 25th goal of the season today in their 4-2 win over Brentford on the final day of the Premier League.

Signed from Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak struck 10 goals in his first league campaign with the Magpies. This season, he truly hit his best, netting 21 goals, more than any one in the division besides Erling Haaland (27) and Cole Palmer (22).

His other four goals came in the Champions League (1), FA Cup (2) and Carabao Cup (1). Noteably, Isak was on target against Paris Saint-Germain at the St. James’ Park as Newcastle held the French champions to a 1-1 draw. He also knocked out Manchester City from the Carabao Cup in the third round by scoring their only goal of the match.

Evidently, he is no flat-track bully. Isak can score in the big games against the big sides. Although Newcastle only achieved a seventh place finish in the league this season, it could’ve been much worse for them without him.

Newcastle’s inconsistency cost them a place in Europe

A seventh-place finish means Newcastle United miss out on a place in any of the three European competitions next season, having only made their Champions League return after 20 years in the first half of the 2023-24 season. This is largely down to their inconsistency, as the highs of 8-0 win over Sheffield United and 4-1 thumping of Chelsea, was offset by 1-0 loss to Luton Town, 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest and 2-0 downing by Bournemouth. The Magpies pulled off several big scalps in the season, but fell to smaller teams, something which head coach Eddie Howe will have to address next season.
